4.25.2007

Finished up everything for class and only have four more boards to cut for review. Yay.

4.23.2007

All right, I revised my book again and put all my stuff on disk. Can't wait to see everyone's books.

4.21.2007

but...I reprinted, (had to change paper because I had used up all my cool paper) and took it back and got the book bound. Spiral binding isn't horribly acurate, but I think it gives a good handmade feel, which is what I want, esspecially for a cook-book. If anyones still going to bind their book, give it to the person doing it a couple sheets at a time eactly positioned, then its harder for them to mess it up and cost you a lot of money in reprinting.

this sucks

All right, I spent 11 hours thursday creating and printing my book, looked great. I almost ran out of ink. Then I took it to three different places trying to get it spiral bond. They all had broken machines or wierd standards. Finaly I found a place and I watched them screw all of it up. So I had to buy 5 more ink cartridges and I'm out of some of my paper, so I'm making modifications now, and have to drive around again tomorrow after an 11 hour shift. At least they are going to bind my stuff for me for free...

illustration

Here is an illustration I am using for my book. It is purposly simple and cartoonish so I can convert it to live paint and fill it in on illustrator. It creates a nice vivid color effect.

finale

All right, I have a bit of paper, but not enough for all 9 by 9 pages. Thanks, those measurements are hard to work with. My client hasn't gotten back to me on the work I've done, but that's good. I'm a little scared. My design is more solid then ever before, but I keep screwing up my boards cutting, (slightly), I just can't be totally perfect. My only advice if you read this is to start now! Start 3 weeks ago, I'm noticing mistakes and fixing them, my portfolio will be as pristine as humanly possible. Each work a piece of art you want to hang up. I hope...I care about this alot, if I don't make it this time, well...fine arts, but, well...you are all really good. I enjoy my professors and fellow students. There is no finer graphic studio in the south-east. (that I can afford)

Vodka idea

Here are a couple of ideas I have come up with for this job I have. I'm creating a logo/image for an energy drink liqour line. These are just a few of 10 rough drafts I have created for my client to look at. Hopefully he will like some of my ideas and then I will work on refining them.

Sad

All right, what should this be? I'm slacking, and should not be. No more...

New Job

Sorry I haven't put any pictures up lately, but I just haven't had much new to put up except ideas. The Brewhouse has offered me yet another job. Now I am creating a energy drink liquor brand/label. There are about seven to eight bottles in all. It' going to be kind of hard with portfolio review and the final booklet project also coming up, but its money! And isn't that why I, or any of you are in school? Regardless, I'm going to be stretched thin for awhile and going slightly mad. If anyone has any ideas of fun stuff to do, let me know! I need it.

3.22.2007

This is an outline I created for the set-up of my paper sample booklet. It is going to have a cook-book theme while it shows of the different kinds of paper Green field makes.

ads x 3

Yay, I have turned those photos into ads. A few tweeks on photo shop and some typographical changes and I think they will be done.
Thank you, good night.

3.19.2007

ad photos

These are the photos I will use for the paper ads.

3.15.2007

300

I just saw the movie 300, and it was well filmed, senseless violence just like I hoped. Something really cool at the end surprised me. The credits were done in a moving digital image of silhouettes and very red blood splatters. I think I liked the end credits as much as the movie, it was done very well, and red on black in a movie theater is very bright and striking.

Stuff on my mind

Well, I'm posting a post because I guess I need too. For the ads I have decided to focus on the specialty papers Green Field makes. All three ads will have that in common as well as an emphisis on being hand-made. I need to take three good photos now of onions, junk mail, and grass. More later.

2.25.2007

This is my buisness card. It ha a folding die-cut of a leaf from the logo. A few tweeks and it will be done. I got my paper sample pack from Green Field and have some perfect stock for this.

2.18.2007

These are afew ideas I,m working on. I ordered off for some of their paper to see what colors and textures I want to use. That will make a difference in how my images will look when printed.

2.11.2007

ads

O.K. Here is my finished ad campaign for the resturaunt company I work for. You can see all three versions in the coming weeks in Access Atlanta Nightlife, (In the A.J.C.)

revised logo

This is my revised logo. I traced my original design and re-did the type treatment. The line width varies more and has a more natural feel I think. I chose to place the type on the bottom because I realised that the seed points down to the type now, while the leaf points up to growth and a promising future. How nifty. I'm just playing around with it now to get the kinks out and to decide the colors I want to use. Sorry I missed an exhilarating class day Thursday, but I was run down. I missed all of you, I do not have a favorite.

1.30.2007

paper company logo

This is my paper company logo so far. I'm not sure if I'm totally happy with the type, but I'm pleased with the organic quality of the illustration. It creates a "G" and is also embryonic. It represents new ideas and growth. The seed also resembles a hemp seed which is a material the company uses extensively for a lot of their paper.

1.19.2007

evil forest

This is one of my later paintings. It's about 2 years old. I was experimenting with colorito. There are no absolute whites or blacks in this painting. It makes it quite vivid in person. I'm sure something is lost on the screen.

windmill

This painting kind of resembles a velvet canvas. I spent a lot of time on the windmill and researched it a bit. It's actually located in Europe some-where. It's been awhile.

Cthulu book

This is the book-cover for the painting. Compare it to the Philip K. Dick cover I did. With this cover, I went with what I took as a "conventional" book-cover. With the other, I based my design off of a grid and thought beyond a book-cover and more into the design element.

Cthulu

This is a painting of the Lovecraftian horror Cthulu. I used it for my first book-cover. The book cover wasn't so great, but I like the painting.

tempest

This is an old painting of mine. Almost 8 years old. There are hidden meanings in it, although looking back, I wasn't as clever as I thought I was.

axe

This is an old painting of mine. At an art show I threw, I heard some scummy punk rock dude tell his girlfriend, "that's exactly what it feels like to shoot crystal-meth." Wow. I wandered around my own art show without telling anyone who I was. It helps.

1.17.2007

27th Letter

This is another project from typography. Using rune symbols we had to create a 27th letter for the alphabet. The letter form had to work with the Georgia typeface.

Brewhouse V.I.P.

This actually isn't from a class in school. This is the front of the V.I.P. pass a designed for the Brewhouse last summer. It was for easy access for regular customers to the bar during the 2006 World Cup. Unfortunately it was not really used. But fifty were printed out and laminated.

Edgar Allan Poe

This is a poster design I did for a puppet show. It is actually currently showing right now.

Phillip K. Dick

This is a book cover design I created for a collection of short stories by Phillip K. Dick. The person being digitized is myself.

Your Community Forum

This is from typography class. It's a flyer based off a grid.

AT&T

Ah yes, good old AT&T. I kind of like their new 3-D approach, but the lines continuing around in the back of the sphere can be a little confusing. From a little way off it looks like someone didn't color it in properly.

BOSS

This is yet another electrical instrument devise company. They mainly produce effects for other instruments. The letters are futuristic and bold, but I find the overall effect a little plain and boring.

Lego

Everyone loves Legos. I believe Lego means "Fun" in Dutch? I'm not sure, I could check... Anyways, the logo looks fun. It consists of bright primary colors and friendly rounded letters. Yay.

Fender

Another music brand, the Fender logo resembles a signature. It implies human craftmanship and pride.

MOOG

This is a great logo. Moog is a synthesiser company and I really like how they took the "M" and made it resemble a sound wave. The type treatment is both bold and futuristic.

The Snake

This is a painting of mine that hangs in front of my computer at home.
